Description
This online, introductory course, is geared towards high school sophomore students and high school and college of further education students and anyone involved in social care, thinking about applying for a degree or diploma in social work, or anybody interested in developing their professional social work skills to enhance their employment opportunities or, career progression. It comprises the core social work theories, concepts, skills and methods of intervention, which are covered in a typical first-year degree or diploma social work programme and gives students a taster of what to expect in a first-year higher education, degree or diploma social work course. It covers the core disciplines that underpin social work practice such as psychology, sociology, social policy, ethics and education. It also teaches study skills in order to utilise the theory, concepts, and skills as well as social work intervention methods taught in the course and through self-directed study activities and a course reflective diary sheet. Through these media, the course will enable students to apply their learning to social work practice contexts by practising on case examples. This is a basic-level introductory course for beginners hence, no prerequisite knowledge is required, as students will be taught everything they need to know.
