Description
This beginner ASL course is designed to introduce students to the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of ASL communication through simple conversations. Each conversation will be broken down and explained step by step, beginning with basic vocabulary and simple sentence structure. Students will learn how to introduce themselves, ask questions, and express their feelings in ASL. By the end of the course, students will be able to fully understand and participate in the conversations used in this lesson themselves. Your instructor is hearing and uses voice throughout this course. Verbal instructions and explanations are given. This course is for English speakers wanting to learn how to communicate in American Sign Language. This is the first of several courses called "levels". Each level builds off of the previous level(s). Each lesson contains a review of signs learned previously so it is advisable to proceed in order. Your instructor is JP Cappalonga. He has a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Northridge in Deaf Studies. JP has been signing for over 20 years and been teaching ASL for over 12 years at the high school and college level. He has an adopted daughter who is Deaf.

My Deaf Friend ASL Level 1 is designed for beginners to those with some sign language experience. It is suitable for anyone interested in learning or improving their ASL skills, including high school students, college students, and adults. The course content is valuable to learners in that it covers the fundamental aspects of ASL, such as grammar, sign production, and conversation. It also provides the opportunity to practice and review ASL skills, and to gain a better understanding of Deaf culture.
