Description
This presentation will cover the essentials of trauma informed care for adults in aprivate practice or clinical setting. Students should have a basic understanding of psychology, therapy techniques, and mental health. This course will cover a variety of assessment techniques and measures for trauma, identifying diagnoses associated with trauma exposure, how to diagnose Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and how to define Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Differential diagnosis and risk for misdiagnosis will be discussed and thelatest treatment methodologies will be discussed. Special attention will be paid to understanding the somatic/physical symptoms of unresolved trauma, the role of polyvagal theory and autonomic nervous system responses and the role of neuroplasticity in both understanding and treating trauma related symptoms in adults. Objectives for this course are as follows:1. Understand how a traumatic event is defined- and identify various levels of trauma(PTSD vs C-PTSD).2. Identify potential signs of undisclosed / unresolved trauma via various symptom reports andbehavioral presentations.3. Understand and identify differential diagnoses associated with trauma.4. Develop basic understanding and be able to name at least 3 of newest treatmentmodalities.5. Develop basic understanding of polyvagal theory, somatic responses to trauma/triggers and neuroplasticity.
